The Work of God

 

Coffee Thoughts Then they inquired, “What must we do to perform the works of God?” Jesus replied, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.” John 6:28-29 Sip…. A crowd had a assembled around Jesus and they were talking about miracles. The works of God. As is common for us, they wanted to do works for God. They asked what they could do to work the works of God. At my age I’m often left with some disappointment and sadness at the lack of having served God more faithfully. Then I read the precious words of Jesus and much “happy happy” is restored to my soul. So how can we serve, what can I do to do the mighty works of God? Jesus said something like this. You want to work the works of God, believe in me. Believe I am the Son. Believe I am who I say I am. Many of us faithful church people would be like, “Oh yes we know that, we believe, but I want to do the REALLY big stuff! I want to work MIGHTY works that willl bring many souls to God. I’m talking about REAL works that will affect my community.” I can’t put words in God’s mouth, but I really believe He would say something like, “Believe in the Son whom I have sent. Believe He is exactly who He says He is. Christ Jesus your one and only Saviour. That is the big stuff. What you are talking about is the little stuff.” We often major on minors, and minor on majors!
