PENTECOST Our celebration of Pentecost is this Sunday. Pentecost is when the Christian Church was officially launched, through a mighty visitation of the Holy Spirit. Approximately 3000 people were added to the Church that day.
Much could be said about the Holy Spirit and his role in our Christian life, but perhaps the BEST thing to do is meditate on the verses below and ask the Holy Spirit to teach us through them.
John 14:26 (Our Teacher) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Acts 1:8 (Empowered Witnesses) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Galatians 5:22-23 (Transformed Life) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Romans 15:13 (Our Comforter) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38 (How to Receive the Holy Spirit) Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.' (NIV)
Romans 8:16 (Confirmation of Salvation) The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
Ephesians 1:13-14 (Sealed for Salvation) In him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. In him you were also sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is a down-payment of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
