BUILDING ON THE ROCK
Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock. -- But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its collapse!” Matthew 7:24-27
The photo above shows a house in Bolzano, Italy that survived a flood. It was built on solid ground, but in 1882 a rogue flood washed away all the dirt from around the house. Because it was built on a huge boulder hidden underground, the house (and the family inside) were all saved.
What a beautiful real-life illustration of the parable of Christ!
We all know the wisdom of building on firm ground, especially when we see beach houses flooded and washed away during violent storms. But, what does it mean (in spiritual terms) to build our lives on "the rock"? It's interesting that the scripture in Matthew 7 says THE Rock... not any old Rock.
This photo shows us what it means! The foundation of Christ in our lives should be so deep and strong in our spirit that even when the worst storms of life swirl around us, we remain steady and unshakeable because of the Rock that supports us. The depth of our relationship with Christ is revealed when the worst happens.
In God alone my soul finds rest; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation. He is my fortress; I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2
