CHRISTMAS STORY: A NEW COVENANT “This is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel” says the LORD. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33
Jesus came to earth for one purpose: to establish a New Covenant that would be far superior to the Law of Moses. The New Covenant would be based on a love relationship with God, rather than legalistic rituals and obedience.
With the birth of Jesus, a bright new era dawned. Christ clearly stated his purpose when he held up a cup of wine at the Last Supper and said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you." (Luke 22:20) Then, Jesus fulfilled Jeremiah’s prophecy when he died on the Cross the following day. Mary, did you know That your baby boy will one day walk on water? Mary, did you know That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters? Did you know That your baby boy has come to make you new? This child that you've delivered Will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man? Mary, did you know That your baby boy has walked where angels trod? And when you kiss your little baby You've kissed the face of God. Mary, did you know?
Mary, did you know That your baby boy is Lord of all creation? Mary, did you know That your baby boy will one day rule the nations? Did you know That your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb? This sleeping child you're holding Is the Great I Am. Lyrics written by Mark Lowry
