Making Music to the Lord

Making Music to the Lord

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:15-20

Some of us are spiritually hungry and wondering why the Holy Spirit doesn’t fill us. Perhaps it's because we receive so much but don’t give anything out? When we start sharing the blessings we have, making bigger plans to serve and bless others, we will find that the Holy Spirit is already ahead of us, pouring out more blessings than we can even handle, trusting us to share them with others.

There is a beautiful parallel in nature. The Aeolian harp, which makes the most heavenly music, is nothing but a set of strings arranged in harmony. When left to the touch of the wind, divine-like notes are produced, as if angels were playing the strings.

In the same way, our hearts can be so open to the Holy Spirit that He can play upon them, spontaneously making heavenly music as we go about our day under the guidance of the Lord.
