SMALL BEGINNINGS

COFFEE THOUGHTS

Sip…. You want to bring joy to God this happy morning? Get your coffee, and begin. Doesn’t even need to be a BIG beginning. A small beginning is sufficient. For the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. Zechariah 4:10

It looked hopeless. But here comes Zerubbabal in his tattered robe with a plumb line. There was rejoicing in heaven over a small beginning.

SMALL BEGINNINGS

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the LORD of Hosts. “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”
Zechariah 4:6-10

Zerubbabel (aka Nehemiah) had been sent by King Darius in Babylon to rebuild the holy Temple in Jerusalem. This was a monumental (impossible) task and met with much opposition. So in this scripture passage, the LORD encourages the people who are involved and tells them the job will be completed, and there will be much rejoicing when it is.

How encouraging it must have been to hear this promise from God, through the prophet Zechariah.
