THE UNFORGIVABLE SIN

THE UNFORGIVABLE SIN

So the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel anyone you find to come in, so that my house will be full. Luke 14:23

In this parable, a powerful landowner invites his friends and neighbors to a feast. When all of them asked to be excused, the Master was angry! So, he extended his invitation to the poor, the crippled, and the outcasts instead.

This parable provides a powerful picture of Christianity in this age. It’s clear that people have grown indifferent to the Gospel in many "Christian" nations. It’s become increasingly difficult to reach the unsaved in our own lands, especially those who have heard the Gospel often but have declined to respond.

They have asked to be excused, and the Lord is indeed excusing and excluding them because of their hardness of heart.

I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Matthew 12:31

Do you know what the "unforgivable sin" is? That's when people resist and reject the invitation of the Holy Spirit to accept God's gift of salvation. They persistently resist the voice of the Holy Spirit in their hearts and conscience.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not simply cursing or speaking disrespectfully of the Holy Spirit; but a hardened refusal to accept the Holy Spirit's role in convicting us of sin and leading us to Christ.

If we continue to resist and reject, eventually we won't be able to hear that voice at all.

According to the Bible, this sin remains unforgiven because it is a rejection of the very means of forgiveness offered by God through Jesus Christ. The unforgivable sin is the final, conscious choice to turn away from God's mercy and salvation.

Some people are afraid they may have committed this sin, but
such fear indicates an inner desire for forgiveness and reconciliation with God. So be at peace, because Jesus gladly welcomes and forgives a contrite heart.
