STEP-BY-STEP GRACE When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. Isaiah 43:2
God does not open paths for us in advance. He does not promise help before help is needed. He does not remove obstacles out of our way before we reach them. Yet when we are on the crisis edge of our need, God’s hand is there exactly when we need it.
Many people forget this, and are forever worrying about difficulties which they foresee in the future. They expect that God is going to make the way plain and open before them, miles and miles ahead; whereas He has only promised to do it step by step as needed.
You must get to the waters and into the flood before you will see the promise fulfilled.
Many people dread death, and lament that they don't have peace about it. Of course, they will not have peace and grace for dying when they are in good health, in the midst of life’s duties, with death far in advance! Why should they have it then? Grace for duty is what we need now: grace for living. When the times comes that we need grace for dying, then we will certainly have it.
We cause unnecessary anxiety for ourselves by worrying about the future.
Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34 —J. R. Miller, updated
