Make You Perfect

Make You Perfect

Now may the God of peace… make you perfect in every good work to do His will. And may He accomplish in us what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:21

In the beautiful prayer at the close of Hebrews, we read: “Now the God of peace… make you perfect in every good work to do His will.” The phrase “make you perfect” literally means “adjust you.” It is a great thing to be adjusted—to our surroundings, circumstances, people, and work. Rather than trying to adjust them to us, we should be adjusted to God’s will and plan for us in every aspect of life.

This is the secret to finding rest, power, and freedom in our work: allowing God to “adjust us” as we go along.

You Must Go

You Must Go

But the LORD told me: "For to everyone I send you, you must go, and all that I command you, you must speak." Jeremiah 1:7

Have you heard someone complain that they don't like religion crammed down their throat? I’m always sorry to hear that. Jesus did tell us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15) Jesus knew that some folks wouldn't like it, but he still wants us to go even when some people harden their hearts.

I agree that we should be polite about sharing the gospel. But some folks think we're being forceful just by mentioning the name of Jesus, even when we're just being normal in our approach. Maybe the name of Jesus is not a normal kind of name, and even saying His name makes an impact? I've wondered about that.

If Jesus really is God, and He really is the Savior that God the Father sent to redeem mankind, it's only logical that we are being loving when we try to share Jesus with others. We do it because we care. We do it because Jesus is the best opportunity the world was ever offered, EVER, and we want everyone to get in on it! We would be less than loving if we failed to share about our wonderful, beautiful Savior.

I realize that some people won't see it that way. The prophet Jeremiah had the same problem: the people he was sent to teach didn't want to hear it. But God told Jeremiah that terrible things were going to happen in Israel, and Jeremiah needed to warn the people, even if they resisted. Which they did.

So resistance is probably inevitable, but the good news of the Gospel transcends all that. God asks us to do what we can, and we will be blessed for our obedience.
